Portage Hill Gallery was first opened in 1982 as a venue to showcase the artwork of Audrey Kay Dowling and many of the fine artists from the Chautauqua region. Since its humble beginnings in the parlor of her 1830s Greek Revival home, the gallery has grown to represent the regional and national work of over 100 artists in three rooms of the house, including a dedicated gallery space added in 1995.

A unique shopping experience with a diverse selection of merchandise, Chautauqua branded items and, of course, a wonderful independent bookstore selection of books. Get your CLSC books as well as Chautauqua Prize and Janus Prize-winners. Open nearly every day of the year.
Located on the ground level, the shopping district of the St. Elmo, located on Bestor Plaza, is a perfect place to experience retail therapy. Pat's and Gi Gi My Love offer beautiful and eclectic women's clothing and accessories. The St. Elmo Spa offers a full range of spa services including the latest techniques in nail care, massage and body wraps; and Food For Thought and La Familia will tempt your taste buds for both snacks and meals alike.
During the summer Chautauqua season, Artists at the Market is a craft fair by local and visiting artisans with shows every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from 1-4 and many Sundays from 12-4 at the Farmer's Market to the south of the Main Gate.
Various vendors participate on different days and offer a wonderful selection of items for sale. There is an assortment of artwork, handmade jewelry, pottery, repurposed china items, fabric arts, hand made soaps, and more! 25% of the money raised goes towards scholarships for students who attend the visual arts and music programs during the summer. The Women's Club operates a boutique at the colonade to support Chautauqua art scholarships. Bring us your gently used designer furnishings and clothing for resale. Hours of operation are W, F, Sun - 12-2 (Summer Season Only)
